If you receive the error regarding the packet size being too large while connecting to the vCenter server, try the following steps:

1. In your SCP tool (WinSCP for example), enter the hostname
2. Click on the Advanced button
3. Go to ‘Shell’
4. Change the shell to /bin/bash
5. Reconnect to the server

If you need to revert to the appliance shell:

1. Log into the vCenter appliance via SSH
2. Type in the following command:
   chsh -s /bin/appliancesh root
