SECTION 1: UPDATING THE GOLD IMAGE
1. Log into the vCenter Server
2. Find the gold image VM
3. Click on the Snapshots tab for the VM
4. Revert the VM to the most recent app install snapshot and revert to it (the last snapshot before sysprepping the VM)
5. Open the VM console and power on the VM
6. Do the following steps inside the VM console
7. Browse to the VMWare Optimization Tool directory
8. Run the file ‘VMwareOSOptimizationTool.exe’
9. Click on the tab ‘Update’
10. Click on ‘Enable Windows Update’ and wait for the success notification
11. Click on ‘Run Windows Update’ to open Windows Update
12. Proceed with updating Windows
13. Reboot the VM once updates are complete
14. Open Chrome and update it by going to Help > About
15. Open Edge and update it by going to Help > About
16. Analyze and defragment drive if needed
17. In the VMware OS Optimization tool, click on the ‘Update’ tab
18. Click on ‘Restore to Original Settings’
19. Click on the ‘Optimize’ tab
20. Select the template that you’ll be using
21. Click the Analyze button
22. Click the Optimize button
23. Once everything is updated, shut down the VM
24. Take a snapshot of the VM and title it similar to “App Install Here”
25. Power on the VM and log back in for the following steps
26. Open the VMware OS Optimization Tool
27. Click on the ‘Generalize’ tab
28. Check the box to ‘Automatically Restart’
29. Click the Generalize button
30. Reboot the VM
31. Open the VMware OS Optimization Tool
32. Click on the ‘Finalize’ tab
33. Click on ‘Finalize’
34. Shut down the VM when complete
35. Take a snapshot of the VM and title it similar to ‘IC Master Snapshot’
SECTION 2: UPDATING THE INSTANT CLONES
1. Once the gold image has been updated, optimized, generalized, finalized and snapshotted, log into the VMware Horizon admin console
2. Click on the ‘Desktops’ link on the left
3. Click on the Instant Clone pool
4. Click on the ‘Maintain’ button
5. Click ‘Schedule’
6. Selected the newest ‘IC Master’ snapshot
7. Click Next
8. Click Next
9. Click Finish
10. Instant Clones should start updating once they no longer have an active session
